Chapter Outline for Proverbs
- The proverbs of Solomon the son of David king of Israel:
- Receive my words and store up my commandments within you;
- Don't forget my teaching; but let your heart keep my commandments:
- Listen sons to a father's instruction
- My son pay attention to my wisdom
- If you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger;
- Warning Against the Adulteress
- Doesn't wisdom cry out? Doesn't understanding raise her voice?
- Wisdom has built her house. She has carved out her seven pillars.
- A wise son makes a glad father; but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
- A false balance is an abomination to the Lord
- Whoever loves correction loves knowledge; he who hates reproof is stupid.
- A wise son listens to his father's instruction but a scoffer doesn't listen
- Every wise woman builds her house but the foolish one tears it down
- A gentle answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger.
- The plans of the heart belong to man; Answer of the tongue is from the Lord.
- Better is a dry morsel with quietness than a house full of feasting with strife.
- An unfriendly man pursues selfishness and defies all sound judgment.
- Better is the poor who walks in his integrity
- Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler.
- The king's heart is in the Lord's hand like the watercourses.
- A good name is more desirable than great riches
- When you sit to eat with a ruler consider diligently what is before you;
- Don't be envious of evil men; neither desire to be with them:
- It is the glory of God to conceal a thing but the glory of kings is to search out
- Like snow in summer and as rain in harvest so honor is not fitting for a fool.
- Don't boast about tomorrow; for you don't know what a day may bring forth.
- The wicked flee when no one pursues; but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
- He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck will be destroyed suddenly
- The words of Agur the son of Jakeh
- King Lemuel: Who can find a worthy woman? For her price is far above rubies.
