- Hebrew Pronunciation
- ʼărîy (ar-ee')
- Strong's Definition
- or (prolonged) [ar-yay']; from אָרָה (in the sense of violence); a lion; (young) lion, [phrase] pierce (from the margin).
Lions are mentioned throughout the Bible. They are often used in symbolism and have even been used to describe God's Son, Jesus!
Normally, they are seen tearing prey from "limb to limb", but we also see them at ease with the Ox and the Lamb. In the Book of Daniel, we see that they did not harm Daniel when he was thrown into their den to be devoured. Instead, God sent an angel to shut their mouths! Daniel came out unharmed the next day!
